Hello. My name is Shelli Browning. I’m from Orlando, Florida. I started ballroom dancing in 2001; I had always wanted to learn to do the Argentine Tango and I was so happy to learn that Alberto Hoyos was going to be offering group classes, so I learned as much as I could. I had heard Alberto’s name in Orlando for many years – since I had been ballroom dancing – and I decided to come out for the group classes and immediately I felt accepted – even though I was from a different (dance) genre. I had so much fun in the group classes that I started taking private lessons. And to make a long story short, I have been dancing now for about two years. I feel very confident in going to the local Argentine Tango dances and dancing the dance that I’ve been shown until I dance the dance of my own, and I’ve had more fun in these classes than I ever imagined. So much more than I ever thought and I would encourage anybody who just wants to try it. You know, you say “I don’t want to go to classes because I don’t know how to dance” … Nobody does at first. Originally, they just brought me because they thought I was going to go and have to dance with the kid because he doesn’t make human contact or eye contact or anything, but the classes here have been really phenomenal. I have been very blown away. The kids that I particularly work with, they’re make eye contact. They’re making human contact which, you know, for children with autism is a really big thing. And they’re having fun, which is really a great thing. Personally, I can’t think of anything that’s more social than dancing. I was very, very impressed.
